One of the best attended sessions at last week’s LSP Conference explained the proposed new University Data Protection Standards. Links to that presentation and accompanying documents can be found here:

Brian Davis and Tim Tolson of IT Security & Policy in the VP/CIOs Office have generously agreed to hold a brown bag session with the LSPs to discuss these draft standards and open the floor to suggestions and clarifications.
The brown bag meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6, from noon to 1 PM in Newcomb Hall 481.
(Update: Because the number of responses has exceeded the original space, the Data Protection Standards Brownbag has been moved to Newcomb Hall 389)
The suggested agenda is as follows:
1. What’s My Responsibility as an LSP/IT Pro? (5-10 minutes)
2. LSP Feedback on the Draft Protection Standards (40 minutes)
• What’s unclear? Impractical? Too weak? Too restrictive?
• What’s missing?
3. Standards Compliance Resources (10-15 minutes)
• What additional guidance is available on the standards?
• Which standards need better guidance;
e.g. supporting web pages, or references to external standards?
If you are interested in attending, please add this event to your calendar. If you are unable to attend but have questions or comments, please write to it-spo@virginia.edu.
